At different times in our lives, we all come across our own versions of Iago. Whether its at school or in the workplace, these people slyly exhibit malevolent and disrespectful behavior. They lack security, and constantly feel the need to put others down in order to gain power.
Their lies are resilient, they're unwavering, and completely sneaky. Sadly, we don't live in a completely moral or truthful society. Everywhere we go, we will come across people who rely on fallacies to get ahead. Take Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme for example. Not only did he put his investor's money into his own pocket, he also aided to the significant downfall in our country's economy. With little regard for who he'd hurt in the process, Madoff did what he thought was necessary to gain personal success.
Unfortunately, many times the Iagos of this world enjoy impunity, and don't get caught or punished for their actions. However, this impunity is almost always temporary. I strongly believe that karma has an influence in everything. Whatever goes around, certainly comes back around.
Though its sometimes hard to delineate the Iagos from the honest Abes, I haven't lost hope in humanity. I'd like to believe that most people do the right thing, and in the end, good things happen to good people.
