Love for Live Theater

There’s something about musical theater that always gets to me. You know how certain people feel particular emotions while playing a sport? Well when I watch a Broadway show, something comes over me. Almost like an adrenaline rush, I feel like every sense in my body burgeons. Each sound and each sight on the stage are a part of me. Its like I feel what the actors feel, and I touch what they touch. The theater elicits an incredible reaction within me that can never be allayed.

My favorite show of all time is called Spring Awakening. Unfortunately no longer on Broadway, it maintained a remarkable cachet, and gained amazing reviews. A musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s 1891 German play, Spring Awakening was the most phenomenal thing I’ve ever seen. What I liked most about it was the music. Imagine ethereal melodies and lyrics, set to rock and roll. The soundtrack coalesces the entire story, and is definitely the most played portion of my iTunes playlist. Whenever I’m nervous or stressed, I put in my headphones, and the soundtrack calms me down. It’s astounding that one collection of songs can completely alter my mood.
