Though some might feel blasé towards the Harry Potter series, I couldn't be more obsessed with it. I truly believe that anyone who disagrees with me is bereft of the story's true enjoyment. When I was in third grade, my mom used to read me a chapter of Harry Potter every night before I went to sleep. I couldn't get enough of the prodigy, "The Boy Who Lived". To this day, I still read the books. I'm pretty sure I've finished the entire series about five times (I know, I'm crazy).
Harry Potter's expansive popularity has been greatly affected by the movie industry. About every year or so, a new film comes out with the next book's premise. My close friend John finds the movies completely jejune, lacking the true magnificence of J.K. Rowling's writing. Though I agree with him in some aspects, I can't help but enjoy watching Harry's world come to life on the screen. I can't hide the movie buff inside of me!!
Not only do I love the movies, I absolutely love the cast (especially Dan Radcliffe!!). Speaking of Dan Radcliffe, Chrissy and I went to see him star in the Broadway show, Equus. After watching the play, we waited at the theater's stage door to meet him. Believe me when I say that it took herculean strength to hold back our excitement! He was so nice, and meeting him was completely epic. For years, Chrissy and I have created board games, posters, movies, etc. all related to Harry Potter, and meeting DanDan was like coming full circle!!
My friend Becca also loves Harry Potter. We always complain about how tortuous it is waiting for the books to come out! Once they do though, we spend hours and hours on the phone discussing theories and sharing our delight with how the most recent story has unfolded.
J.K. Rowling's incredible novels have even influenced a theme park in Florida that will open this year! I fully intend on visiting this mecca full of crazy fans just like me. Rowling's work is completely remarkable and has made a significant impact on today's pop-culture. I have grown up reading her stories and can't wait to introduce them to my future children.
